Homeopathy

In addition to his Osteopathic (D.O.) and Allopathic (M.D.) training, Dr. Malina is a licensed Homeopathic physician. He prescribes Homeopathic remedies, which may be offered in combination with Osteopathic manipulation.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is one type of health care that evaluates the patient with a comprehensive approach. This can include the patient’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Once the patient is evaluated, a Homeopathic remedy is chosen in an attempt to aid healing. There is a natural ability within the body to promote healing and restore and maintain overall health.  It is the primary focus of Homeopathic treatment to help improve this ability of the body to heal itself and not the removal of disease, diseaserelated symptoms or specific conditions.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that “like cures like.”  If a well person takes a substance that produces clinical symptoms, such as a runny nose, an ill person with a runny nose may be able to take that same substance and experience relief of the runny nose. It is thought that this same substance can act in the ill person by stimulating the body’s ability to heal. The level of health improves and the runny nose resolves.

What are homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathic remedies are commonly made from naturally occurring substances.  These substances are processed according to strict guidelines and quality control. Remedies are the result of substances that have been combined with liquids and undergo multiple serial dilutions. Each dilution represents a particular strength, referred to as a specific potency.  Remedies can be made in different potencies. Commercially available remedies can take the form of liquids or pellets and tablets that have been coated with liquid. For example, pellets are composed of lactose sugar and come in labelled vials. If there are any questions or concern, packaging content information should be consulted.

Taking Homeopathic Remedies

Homeopathic treatment can be combined and may even work best when provided with other forms of treatment. An evaluation is performed by the Homeopathic physician to try to decide which remedy to prescribe.  This decision will conclude with the name of the remedy, potency and dosage. The response to the remedy may vary, sometimes taking longer depending on the individual. Remedies are thought to be safe and gentle and can combine well with other medications. Remedies should not take the place of other medications.  There are possible risks that may include, but are not limited to, a return of preexisting symptoms, a relapse of symptoms, a temporary increase in current symptoms, and the development of new symptoms. It is understood and acceptable that it is not possible to anticipate all risks and complications. Homeopathic treatment has limitations, and it is understood and acceptable that results are not guaranteed. If there are any questions about a response to Homeopathic treatment, the patient is advised to address them with Dr. Malina and/ or your Primary Care Provider with whom the patient is expected to continue his/her relationship. Homeopathic treatment does not take the place of regular care from other physicians or health care providers.
